Kiwi’s new tricks… fashion

Get ready for the next generation of Kiwi designers.

It includes two Karen Walker proteges, Adrian Hailwood - who has shown at several New Zealand fashion weeks - and exciting newcomer, Mala Brajkovic, 29. Trained at St Martins College in London and East Sydney TAFE.
Brajkovic spent three years as Walker’s design assistant before going solo at the end of 2004. Brajkovic is not yet wholesaling but opened her own store in Auckland’s Vulcan Lane last month. The debut range, How’s Tricks?, features silk taffeta puffball dresses and skirts, such as this black duchess satin bubble-hem skirt and kimono shirt in Snakes ‘n’ Chains print, pictured, as well as cropped jackets in velvet, brushed cotton or oversized woollen check and some cool embroidered knits.

Brajkovic has also launched a jeans and T-shirts capsule range called Mala Jeans, which includes the three-quarter length, skintight, acid wash "Hottie" style. A star is born. Inquiries (649) 520 0994 or email geena@malabrajkovic.com
