Fashion police can’t help thinking that the stylists for Alexander McQueen and co at the European men’s wear shows aren’t a patch on Sydney’s own Dead Inside the Chrysalis.

Who? We’d never heard of them, either, until we turned up to the recent taping of the Alice Cooper interview on ABC TV’s Enough Rope, during which Cooper paled in comparison to studio audience member Manek Deboto.

Standing out from a sea of vintage rock Ts, the Dead Inside the Chrysalis lead singer sported a DITC T-shirt, blue hair, blue lippie and fingernails and blue face streak a la Adam Ant. Deboto and his crew - Clark Bent, the Organ Donor, ROM Defect andR Rated - describe their music as “electroglam punk”. But with their spray-painted Ts, combats and use of the “cock lobster” codpiece and fluoro gaffer and electrical tape, above, could this underground Australian music/fashion hybrid be the post-apocalyptic Duran Duran? “Tape is the new safety pin,” Deboto says.
