OTTAWA CANADA : Group sex among consenting adults is neither prostitution nor a threat to society, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled on Wednesday as it lifted a ban on so-called "swingers" clubs.

"Consensual conduct behind code-locked doors can hardly be supposed to jeopardise a society as vigorous and tolerant as Canadian society," said the opinion of the seven-to-two majority, written by Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin.

Lawyers for Labaye and the owner of another swingers’ club in Montreal argued that consensual sex among groups of adults behind closed doors was neither indecent or a risk to society.

The Supreme Court judges agreed.

Cronulla Race Riots

SYDNEY - Twenty-five people were treated for various injuries and 16 others were arrested at race riots on Sydney’s Cronulla beach.

Islamic and political leaders condemned the violence, which was launched by mobs of youths who attacked people of Middle Eastern appearance on Cronulla beach in south Sydney on Sunday.

Over 5,000 fed up and angry people gathered at the beach after email and mobile phone messages called on local residents to beat-up "Lebs and wogs" — racial slurs for people of Lebanese and Middle Eastern origin.

The angry outbreak of mob violence followed a cowardly assault by a group of Middle Eastern men on two defenceless volunteer lifeguards the previous week.

Chanting "No more Lebs" and "Aussie, Aussie, Aussie … Oi, Oi, Oi", mobs of angry and determined young men waving Australian flags attacked anyone of Middle Eastern background.

Six police officers were injured as they tried to stop violence, and two ambulance officers were also injured.

Later on a vicious gang of some 60 Middle Eastern men launched a series of apparent revenge attacks in nearby suburbs, smashing more than 40 vehicles with baseball bats and stabbing two unarmed defenseless youths.

Police expect more outbreaks of violence as the word of Sunday’s violent race riots spreads to other Sydney suburbs.
